TRUDY KERR

gorgeousTrudynewSinger, Trudy Kerr, releases her fifth album this month. Entitled Cloudburst the material is based on tunes from the instrumental jazz repertoire. The inspiration for the album came after she heard John Coltrane?s ?Moments Notice?, ?I thought it would be a great song to sing? says Trudy, ? so I wrote a lyric for it. I then decided an entire CD of material from the instrumental jazz repertoire would be an interesting and challenging concept for me.? Later this autumn, Trudy also releases a further album, Jazz For Juniors. Whilst attending a baby massage class with her youngest child, Louis, earlier this year, Trudy found that the teacher was also a lover of jazz and believes it?s soothing to massage babies to the laid-back sounds of jazz. On hearing that Trudy was a jazz singer, Clare asked Trudy to sing to the babies. Trudy's singing was a real hit for both the mothers and babies, and the idea for Jazz For Juniors was born.

As for her own preferred ?laid-back sounds of jazz Trudy says, ?This list is a list of music I am currently enjoying, and they all feature amazing vocalists!?

Ingrid James - Essence
Australian singer Ingrid James has a voice that reminds me of eating chocolate: rich, dark and smooth. This is a really different vocal album, recorded live in the studio with a lot of energy and spontaneity.

Beady Belle ? Cewbeagappic
Norwegian band with a great vocalist. This band was introduced to me by my husband Geoff Gascoyne. It is a very original sounding mixture of jazz and electronic music, and it?s very atmospheric. My favourite track is Bella.

Bob Dorough ? Antiquated Love (I think this will be the title)
This CD?s not out yet; it?s due for release later this year. I?m a huge fan of Bob?s and he was our house guest during the recording. Bob is such a jazzer, and a great bloke too. The album features songs penned by Fran Landesman.

Claire Martin ? Secret Love
Yet another great album by Claire. Wonderful arrangements and her vocals are as swinging as ever. Really inspiring stuff!

Diana Krall ? The Girl in Another Room
In the past I was never a fan of Diana?s stuff, but this album is magic, really moving and I believe every word she sings!

Elvis Costello ? North
Diana?s hubby. I love his voice, he sounds like no other. His song writing is also unique with superb arrangements. The CD sets a wonderful mood which I find so relaxing.

Monica Zetterland - Waltz for Debby
While in Sweden last year, I met a gentleman called Magnus, and he sent me this CD as he knew I would love Monica?s singing. This album was recorded with the Bill Evans trio and it?s wonderful. She is a real jazz singer, with a wonderful sound and style of her own.

Rigmor Gustafsson - Close to You
Another Swedish singer, again introduced to me by Magnus. This CD was recorded with pianist Jacky Terrasson and is a celebration of Dionne Warwick. The arrangements are great, it has a nice poppy feel to it and she delivers them with an unfussy style.

Susannah McCorkle - Broadway to Bebop
I really love all of Susannah?s work, sadly she?s not with us any more. There is just a wonderful honesty in her voice; she was a great jazz musician and this is apparent on all her recordings.

Geoff Gascoyne - Keep it to Yourself
Due for release in September. This is a fine jazz album with some wonderful original compositions by Geoff, and the band is swinging and tight. Vocal contributions by Jamie Cullum and the governor Georgie Fame are fab. I also got in on the act and recorded a track with string quartet!
